The  lion was carved in Asia out of lime wood which is a very light colored wood. As a part of a custom fireplace mantle, this lion was aged and finished to match the other light woods of poplar, and bass.  It was a perfect companion of the aged walnut paneled room for housing the owners' prized antiques.
